DAY ONE

So our extreme measure was a two-wheel drive quad to carry our goods, us, and our canoe the 6-7km trip to the mouth of Great Bear River.

So, about 400 meters later we were stuck with a broken throttle, having to resort to using the satellite phone to contact town which was about 800-meters away across a little lake!

How embarrassing  is that! A friend said that we really looked American with our bug-nets on!  We may have looked American tourist but the bugs wern't suckin' on my blood let me tell you.

Friends came to the rescue again,  and escorted us the rest of the way to the river.  If that didn't happen we would have spent the better part of 24 hours dragging, driving, carrying, and cursing our way on the "trail" to begin our trip! Thanks again VBC!

So around 17:00 on Tuesday of the journey we were finally at the River! It's tough to see from this shot but over our shoulders to the right is chunks of ice forcing their way down the water way we intend to navigate!

Geez . . . you make those of us who don't go to far wild seem lazy. I hope you all are having fun in the ice and cold. As I sit in 83 degree heat and 100% humidity, I'm wondering why I haven't moved to Cape Breton already.
